On Thursday 20 August, Wiltshire Councillors on the Southern Area Planning Committee refused planning permission for a proposed convenience store, drive‑thru coffee shop and two storage/trade units on the Armishaw site next to In‑Excess. These would have sat alongside Armishaw’s existing warehouse. Councillors raised serious concerns about the safety of where the shared use path on Netherhampton Road crosses the access road, particularly the large increase in vehicles crossing the path of people walking, wheeling and cycling, and causing congestion by turning right across traffic. They also highlighted the impact the new units would have on nearby homes in Riddell Way and Poplar Close.
Local councillors, Brian Dalton, Sven Hocking and Annie Riddle, along with members of the public, spoke powerfully about the risks the development would create for anyone travelling on foot or by bike. Their contributions helped ensure that these safety issues were fully recognised in the decision.
